Philip Lee

Philip Lee Shihan has a 7th Dan in Aikido Aikikai Shihan based in Singapore. He’s a founder of the Aikido Shinju-Kai organization which is the largest one in the territories of the Malaysian countries.

Sensei Philip Lee was born on 29 October 1954. He started his martial art way being nine years old with Chinese Wushu. He followed the studies with Judo, Karate, Taichi,  Kodachi and Goshindo. At the age of 17 Philip began his Aikido training with Sensei Harry Ng and in 8 years was appointed as an instructor under Aikikai Singapore…

Afterward, Philip used his chance to become an uchi-deshi (live-in student) in Hombu Dojo under Kisshomaru Ueshiba. He came back a lot of times to Japan since then to improve, joined Morihiro Saito in Iwama, Seiseki Abe in Osaka and was able to learn from the Hombu Senseis of the period.

In 1982 Sensei founded his first permanent Dojo in Singapore, a precursor to Aikido Shinju-Kai. Today the organization covers Singapore and does have around 50 Dojos in the country. Philip Lee managed to spread his Dojos in China, Malaysia, Indonesia.  He is teaching aikido for Singapore Armed and Police Forces too and abroad of course.

The next video will give you a better understanding of how does Kodachi Championship looks like. Philip Lee won a gold medal in Yokohama, Japan in 1990. He was awarded the grade of 7th Dan in Kodachi Goshindo by the founder, Tesundo Tanabe and was appointed as the official representative for Singapore.

Lee Sensei is doing aikido now for over 40 years and his style is calm and clean. Every move is done with the same face and, what’s more important, with body confidence you can feel even through a video.  Shihan Philip Lee was promoted to a 7th Dan Aikido Aikikai by Moriteru Ueshiba in 2017.

Sensei has two sons. Aloyseus and Alexander. Both of them are doing Aikido on a high level and even teach at the same seminars with their father.
