Sensei Philip Lee was born on 29 October 1954. He started his martial art way being nine years old with Chinese Wushu following with Judo, Karate, Taichi, Kodachi (short sword) Goshindo. At age of 17 began his Aikido trainings with Sensei Harry Ng and in 8 years was appointed as an instructor under Aikikai Singapore…
Afterwards he used his chance to become an uchi-deshi (live-in student) in Japan, Hombu Dojo under Kisshomaru Ueshiba. He came back a lot of times to Japan since then to improve. Joined Morihiro Saito in Iwama, Seiseki Abe in Osaka and reached much of the Hombu Senseis of this time.
In 1982 Sensei founded his first permanent dojo in Singapore, a precursor to Aikido Shinju-Kai. Aikido Shinju-Kai covers Singapore and does have around 30 dojos these days. Philip Lee managed to spread his dojos in China, Malasya, Indonesia. He’s teaching aikido for Singapore Armed and Police Forces too and abroad of course.
Next video will give you a better understanding of how does Kodachi Championship looks like. Philip Lee won a gold medal in Yokohama, Japan in 1990. In 2004 he was awarded the grade of 7th Dan in Kodachi Goshindo by the founder, Tesundo Tanabe and was appointed as the official representative for Singapore.
He is doing aikido now for over 40 years and his style is calm and clean. Every move is done with the same face and, what’s more important, with a body confidence you can feel even through a video. Shihan Philip Lee was promoted to a 7th Dan Aikido Aikikai by Moriteru Ueshiba in 2017 year.
